Workshop: Glazed and Confused
Are you getting the hang of making things in clay but still often disappointed with your glazing results? This is the workshop for you!
Clay Center founder and former Tulane ceramics professor Michelle Swafford will explain the fundamentals of glazes and glazing, and will demonstrate specific techniques that you can use to improve your glaze results immediately.
Students are welcome bring up to 4 pieces to glaze at the end of this workshop if desired. Pieces must be bisque fired prior to the workshop, whether at the Clay Center or at another studio. (No kiln access? Check out our drop-off firing service!)
Course Level
This course is appropriate for adult students at the following levels:*
- Beginner+ (some prior clay experience)
- Intermediate
*Children 14 years of age and older may take this course with a concurrently registered and attending parent or adult guardian. All adults and children must be registered individually.
Included in your tuition
- Studio glazes
- Use of studio brushes and glazing tools
Good to know
- Cone 6 glaze firing at the Clay Center is included for pieces glazed during the workshop. Pieces will be available to pick up about two weeks after the workshop.
- This is a Beginner+ level workshop, perfect for those who've taken at least 1 or 2 clay classes already. If you're interested in a more intermediate glaze workshop, please check out our Glaze Mixing & Materials workshop!
- To cut down on trash, we don't provide paper towels in the studio. We suggest all students bring a hand or kitchen towel to dry their hands.
