Paper Clay Figurative Sculpture: A Visiting Artist workshop with C.A. Traen

Join us for a Visiting Artist workshop with Tennessee artist C.A. "Cat" Traen! Learn how to build naturalistic figures using Cat's methods and prepared paper clay.
In this two-day workshop, participants will learn how to use Cat’s approach to sculpting a hollow figure using paper clay. Participants will each build a 16” tall sculpture from mid thigh to the head. Instruction will cover how Cat uses paper clay slabs to create simple hollow forms that coordinate with photographic and drawn references to anchor her process in naturalism.
Cat will lead participants through foundational anatomical concepts and sculpting strategies to encourage greater accuracy and expression as the components of the figure come together as a whole.
This workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to make figurative ceramics using the approachable methods of a skilled instructor. Participants of any skill level will be able to engage with Cat’s techniques with minimal equipment and materials! Suitable for all skill levels.
